You know you're from Humarock if...

  • You still look for your first glimpse of the ocean coming down Coast Guard
    hill into Humarock.
  • You revert to being 15 years old when you cross over the bridge to
    Humarock.
  • You hope some kids will be diving off the bridge.
  • You check the tides.
  • You always expect to see beach friends from summers years ago.
  • You think Humarock Beach is the best, despite the rocks.
  • On July 3d evening you would be nowhere else in the world.
  • You think the water is warm when it reaches 60 degrees.
  • You look for the Pilgrim Monument in P Town on clear days.
  • The only thing you know about Humarock history is the storms.
  • You still call the general store Clarks.
  • You can't give clear directions on how to get to Humarock.
  • And you hope most people cannot find Humarock.
  • You wonder how Humarock got its name.
  • Your favorite piece of clothing is your Humarock sweat shirt.
  • You love the smell of salt air and the sound of sea gulls.
  • You listen for the sound of breaking waves at night.
  • Driving back over the bridge out of Humarock, you can't wait to come back!
  • You know it's a two way stop by Humming Rock Gifts - not a four way stop.
  • You've replaced everything metal on your house with vinyl, plastic or
    fiberglass.
  • You know the tide times so you can get a great spot at the Spit.
  • You know instinctively where that red buoy is when it is sunk under the
rushing tides before you reach the mouth.
  • You know that the South River Marina was really a GAS STATION.
  • You plan the Sat. of Labor Day Weekend around the Horribles Parade.
  • You KNOW what the Horribles Parade is.
  • When you hear the Hokey Pokey you remember dancing on pavement.
  • When you want a beach toy filled you think of getting yelled at by Ed
    Covell
    for using the tire pump.
  • When someone talks of the A&P you remember the grocery across from Clarks.
  • The Lodge was the only place to get dinner without crossing the bridge.
  • As you cross the bridge and you look up on the porch for Marge "Clark" or
    Ed
"Covell" in the rolling chair in front of the garage.
  • You know that the best beach plumbs are behind the Fire Station.
  • You know where the seawall ends! (Both Ends)
  • When you hear "the cliff" you think of tunnels and towers.
  • The dances and old movies at the fire station parking lot in the 40's.
  • You took red cross swimming lessons in the river by the SHCA and worried
you would step on horseshoe crabs.
  • You fished off the Julian st bridge with a drop line after dark and caught
    eels.

And do you remember when....

  • You drank beea and ate lobsta.
  • You needed the sound of the surf to put you to sleep.
  • The only thing that got your a.m. going was your stop at Dockside Donuts.
  • When you heard a truck backfire, you thought it was time to take out the trash and
    it must be Saturday.
  • the "Hatches" was a cheap place to stay.
  • Ferris's was the name of the old grocery story across from Clark's.
  • There was a great pizza shop just up from the Bridgeway.
  • There were black-out shades on windows of waterfront property during World War II.
  • Victory in Japan was celebrated with pots and pans on the beach.

  • You swam in the huge waves after the storms
  • You fished off the Julian St. bridge with a drop line after dark and caught eels
  • You worried that you would step on a horsehoe crab when taking swimming lessons in the river
  • After a "Nor Easter" you walked the beach looking for Sea Clams
  • The Dunes was a short cut to Leo's Bakery for Sunday Donuts
  • The Great Flat was the best place to get your clams
