Richard "Robin" Sibley

Richard A. "Robin" Sibley 1949-2002

Richard A. "Robin" Sibley, Jr. of Marshfield, died suddenly on September 24, 2002. He was 53.

Born in Fitchburg in 1949, he grew up in Ashby and graduated from Cushing Academy in Lunenburg in 1967. After attending the University of Hartford, Mr. Sibley joined the US Coast Guard in 1969 as a radioman 3rd class stationed in Kodiak, Alaska and later in Marshfield until 1973.

He owned Sibley Industries from 1977 to 2001 where he designed and printed nautical chart reproduction note cards, napkins and giftware for the East coast (including Humarock), Virgin Islands and Bermuda. He also enjoyed delivering flowers for Marshfield Florist from 1997 to 1998.

Mr. Sibley graduated from Clark University in 1998 with a degree in graphic design and web design and had worked for Entergy in Plymouth since 1999 as a graphic designer. He was also nominated for awards for his design work.

He was the creator and designer of numerous websites including hercircle.org and MHS Friends of Music and Grad Nite Live sites. Richard donated his time and talent to documenting everyday life in Humarock and developed and nurtured Humarock's community website into one of the best "small town" sites around.

Mr. Sibley volunteered his time and talent to many community endeavors. He loved animals and especially enjoyed volunteering with the Scituate Animal Shelter.

His hobbies included SCUBA diving, kayaking, motorcycles, aquatic gardening and training his new Sheltie puppy, Aedan. He was always seen walking his dogs (and neighbors' dogs) on Coast Guard Hill in Marshfield. Richard was passionate about Hawaii and had visited there several times with his family. He was a naturalist who loved photography, all genres of music and the arts.

Mr. Sibley is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carole (Rimmer) Sibley, and daughters Katie and Becky Sibley, both of Marshfield. He was the son of the late Richard A. and Katherine (Durkee) Sibley. He was the son-in-law of Jack and the late Mae Rimmer of North Palm Beach, FL and brother-in-law of Phyllis and Jack Stern of West Palm Beach, FL and Ann and Tim Merry of Sherborn. He will also be missed by many friends.

A celebration of Richard's life was held on Sunday, September 29, at the USAF Fourth Cliff Recreation Area in Humarock where his kayak, filled with tropical flowers, was sent out to sea in his honor. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Standish Humane Society, P.O. Box 824, Scituate, MA 02066 (www.standishhumanesociety.com).
