Old Humarock Post Card Presentation
Part 5

21. Beach Races July 4, 1914
Apparently, beach races have long been a tradition at Humarock Beach. We now hold these races on Labor Day weekend. Note the attire: men in shirts, ties, and hats, women in long dresses and hats, and the boys are wearing tank tops. I wonder if they did the egg toss, that is so popular now.

22. Boat Races July 4, 1915
Do you think we could get away with doing this today, with our 6 mph, no wake, rules in the river? The boats are classics, the people are all dressed up once again, and there are no docks in the river here yet. This is the "old" bridge also.

23. On The Beach 1914
This is what well dressed women and children wore on the beach in 1914. That is an interesting old bicycle too!

24. Humarock Skyline 1909
This peaceful view of Humarock is taken from Ferry Hill. The last house at the northern end of the seawall is behind the house in the foreground, which is on Newell Street. Today, there is a long dock to the left of that house, and Concord St. is just to the right of it.

25. River View South c. 1923
Looking south from the Sea Street bridge, note the open spaces along the river in 1923; there were almost no houses, and not many boats. I believe the white house on the left is author Royale Brown's summer home and studio at Postscript Lane, but more about him later! I wonder if Royale Brown and Hotel Royal had any connection!
