Paragon Park, C. 1906

6. Paragon Park, C. 1906
Writings on Humarock cards indicate that a ride to Paragon Park in Nantasket for amusements and dancing was a favorite event for over half a century.  Who could forget the imposing roller coaster as you drove into Nantasket?  I believe the Merry Go Round is still in use there.

Cliff House, C. 1905

7. Cliff House, C.  1905
The Cliff House in Minot was one of the many fine old hotels on the South Shore and a short ride from Humarock.  I remember it well into the 1950’s.  I believe it burned, as did most of them.

Sea View House, C. 1908

8. Sea View House, C. 1908
The Sea View House was located on the current location of the Bridgwaye Inn on the South River.  This building has been replaced, but the buildings beyond it are still there.

Schooner Helena, 1909

9. Schooner Helena, 1909
The Schooner Helena washed up on Humarock Beach in a storm on January 31, 1909. just south of the main opening.  It was sailing from Fernandia to Boston laden with lumber, and was a total loss.  In the years of great sailing ships from 1807 to 1919, 90 ships were shipwrecked on Scituate shores.  About 20 of the wrecks were on Humarock, mostly near Fourth Cliff.

Armstrong Cottage, C. 1910

10. Armstrong Cottage, C. 1910
The writing on this post card says, “This is Mrs. Armstrong’s summer cottage at Sea View.” Can you find it on Ferry Hill?
